Topic: Slow night last night

Went road cruising last night. The temps were great but the moon was full and BRIGHT; although there was very little moving and numbers were low we still found some cool stuff.

1 = AOR ???  It got off of the road too quickly to get a pos. ID but I think it was either a prairie king or great plains rat.

1= AOR midland brown

1 = DOR cotton mouth

1 = AOR Timber

1 = AOR milk snake.

1 = AOR copper head.

1 AOR Copper head

1 DOR green snake

Friday night was awful...starting to believe that moon DOES play a role.
4 copperheads
1 earth snake
1 HUGE bear

better than not going, but still, a lot of gas for very little herps!

I was actually considering posting a topic seeing what everyones point of view was on whether or not the moon plays a role on Herps being out and about.

We were coming back from Harrison Sunday evening and saw a bear run across Hwy 7 about 20 mi north of Dover. First one I've personally seen in the 'wild.'

My road cruising efforts this weekend were quite poor, too.  I saw more on the roads during the day than night.  Not sure I can blame it all on the Moon though, since it seemed to come up later.  (Yet, when it was out I saw NOTHING.)  I expect the next significant weather event (rain, change in temp, etc.) will affect herp movements more so than Moon.

Re: Slow night last night

Not to give up our super secret spot, but lets just say it was on the arkansas side...right at dusk...saw it up ahead, at about 100 yards...i guarantee it was close to 4ft tall at the top of the back...biggest i've seen down there...i'd say between 300-400lbs. Seemed pretty uninterested in us....so as we got cameras out, here comes a car from the opposite direction...spooked pretty quick then.

Also saw something even crazier than the bear...
on the west end of the 1st mountain...as we are coming UP...we pass a kid on a skateboard being followed by his buddies in a car...going down...quickly...our guess was 40-45mph. He had on helmet and pads...but can you imagine?  Wow. How funny would it have been if he hit a bear...now THAT would be awesome.
