Topic: Fire fighting and herping

Yesterday ,during which we had some VERY low dew points and humidity we had numerous fires spring up around here and there. Firefighters from the Arkansas Forestry Commision were out most of the day, being called to different areas of the county to assist with these wildfires. Last night about midnight as we were coming off of another fire and getting our gear packed back up at the station, they saw our lights on and stopped in to see us. The leadman told of a very large Timber Rattles snake that he almost stepped on while working the fireline near Pyatt(Marion Co),also seen a number of other herps. All I seen while working our line was a armadillo!!!! sad  But I guess that"s a pretty good indication that spring is almost here!!!!

Firemen get all the luck LOL. You go out looking for something and you don't find it, and some one who realy doesn't need it finds it. God works in mysterious ways. Do you think the snakes where just trying to get warm being close to the fire and all??

They were probably fleeing it, often times the firemen see the charred bodies of snakes that werent fast enough...

Poor fellas..... Those snakes coulda made a difference, maby even solved the cure for cancer. hmm Im serious snake venom could have a chemical that could be anti cancer cell in some way, not that it would, just a slight possibility.
