It was just a big misunderstanding. We stopped along the road and then walked into the woods to a small pond. Someone who lives nearby saw us and thought we were deer hunters (many of us were wearing camouflage jackets, etc. so that probably fueled the fire. Of course, I don't know many hunters who are successful at killing deer with dip nets.) Anyway, this guy called the sheriff and a deputy came out to where we were just as we were getting ready to leave. Dr. Trauth explained to the deputy what we were doing and then the deputy took Dr. Trauth to the guys house so he could explain it to him. When he found out what we were doing he was apparently happy we were there (wasn't his land, though). Also, the deputy apparently wants to go back to school and major in wildlife management. So there were no gunshots or handcuffs or anything really exciting (but it would have made an interesting photo, nonetheless).

Hmmmm..........may give that a try

Down in a canyon out of the wind, the temp was actually pleasant and i guess this guy came out of his den to catch some rays, but anyway, there's your first hot.

I know I already got the first turtle but here is the first Box Turtle for us. my 11 year old son found him while raking leaves Sunday at my parents house in Lonoke County. Its yearling size and very active. (this kid always finds Box Turtles for me lol)
