Topic: Distribution maps

Hey Kory. Is it possible that you could compliment the current distribution maps with larger ones that show the big picture of the species' national distribution? It isn't a big deal to me because I have multiple field guides. I just thought it might be beneficial to other visitors to the site.

Just a thought.

Re: Distribution maps

Good thought; this is something I've thought about before.  Right now, I'm kind of holding off on developing much with the distribution maps until I have the AR herp database to work from.  After that, you'll start seeing some upgrades...and this is definitely a suggestion I'll keep in mind.   cool  Thanks for the input.

Change of topic...  Would you consider uploading some of your Illinois Chorus Frog, Siren, etc. pictures to the gallery?  You seem to be finding some critters of late that I don't yet have documented.

Probably not much at this point.  Just that something of an "official" database of museum vouchered specimens is being compiled.   I was told it would be done sometime last summer or fall, but it is obviously taking longer to complete it.  I don't really known the current status of the project.

I have been promised access to this database once it is available and should be able to use the information to improve the range maps.  Numerous issues will have to be resolved before anything tied to the database becomes publicly accessible on the site.  For one, I haven't even seen a draft of what it looks like, how it's structured, etc.  Plus, I think I can safely say that some amount of "error" will be built into locations to somewhat obscure sensitive localities.  But again, I will be coordinating with the appropriate officials and so forth to make those decisions.

Right now, that's probably about all that I can share about it.  I'm reluctant at this point to say anything about who is compiling the database, who will have administrative control over it, etc.  If and when some of those details become public knowledge, I'll share what I can.
