Topic: 03/18/07 First snakes of the year for me
Well I got a late start getting over to the fish farm, so I decided to just go to a closer farm that I used to frequent which is smaller and only raises goldfish. I flipped trash and walked pond levies for over an hour before I flipped over a flat bottom boat laying on the side of a pond levy and found my first snake of the year, a tiny little Midland Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi wrightorum). I put him in a container as I had my Jeep right behind my and flipped the boat over again because there were some lizards I missed the first time, only to find another snake. This time it was a Western Ribbon Snake (Thamnophis proximus proximus). Im thoroughly excited by this time and see some trash/plywood/large PVC pipes to flip nearby so I head over there. The large PVC pipes are the bonus for the day as I find one of last years baby Speckled Kingsnake (Lampropeltis getula holbrooki) which was on of my target species for the day. I brought the little kingsnake home to raise up for breeding projects later on. I will be heading back out there tomorrow morning and again on Sunday. The temps are going to stay in the mid to upper 70s all week so it should be productive.

And the catch of the day!
