Topic: Louisiana Pain
I guess I will start this thread off. I do not know what the others will do, but they can add on or whatever. I will not start one item I am heavily involved in. I will wait till the pictures show, and I will add my comments.
A few of us took a short drive down to northern Louisiana to look for Gators and Coral Snakes. I hat to say it but we found none of the above.
We did not come up empty handed. I am not as long winded as big B (Mulebrother), but none the less I will try and tell a story. I will SOA names to protect the innocent (which I am not one of). I will leave some stories to be told by others with more first hand knowledge.
Jeremy and I set off on Thursday with the plans of scouting out the area for potential spots to hit. We had been given some advice, but not a lot. We later found out that two others of our party (Culebra and ToadLicker) would join us in this endeavor. We all opted for luxury and got a hotel room the first night. Needless to say that was our first adventure. We arrived to a full parking lot and a lot of base thumping. I guess Thursday night is a good night to go dancing at the Ramada. We awoke the next morning somewhat refreshed and ready to go.
We stopped at a sandy area near a river and found our first snake within 10 minutes. Things looked good. It was this nice Prairie King Snake. My pictures are a little washed out, maybe one you others has some better pictures that does it justice.

Just after that we found this nice little Cottonmouth crossing the road.

We then proceed to look for this spot behind a 150 year church that had some water with a potential gator or two. We did not find the church that day. We flipped rocks and such, only to find Ground Skinks (only saw about a million), Fence Lizards, and Green Anoles. I did see an unidentified juvie nerodia dart into a large puddle.
A couple of the team spotted a large body of water on the Gazetteer, so off we go in search of the water. In the mean time we met up with another member of our little party, creature teacher. The road to the water was gaited so we opted to walk down to the lake. The strange thing is we saw a total of four Red-eared Sliders on the road (3 juvies, one dead and one small adult).

On the way back we saw this little guy, Rough Green Snake.

We then shot back to set up camp. After setting up camp we met up with a local student. I guess we should call her Lindsey. She quickly fit in the group. We loaded into the vehicles for a little road cruising. No such luck, probably a little early in the year for this to work. It did however produce one good story. Let us just say that beverages make a person have to use the little girlâ??s room on a frequent basis, and during one these maybe we left one behind. Lindsey was then nice enough to cook us some burgers and introduce us to her dog Holly (thanks again for dinner). Holly will play a crucial part in later posts. I think I will end this with that we met up with the Captain back at camp and gave him juicy burger. I or another will pick this up with the next day (my favorite day
) in our adventure.
