Topic: Louisiana Pain Day 3 Last Day
Well I guess I will finish up the story. So the sun rose on our third and final day. We shot over to help Lindsey flip so tin and check traps at her study area. She is doing a herp survey of a chunk of land owned by Northwestern State University.
We caught a Plainbelly Water Snake and a Five-lined Skink under her tin. We continued to hike around. Jeremy and I watched Lindsey's dog Holly pick up a sent. She ran down a hillside and pointed. Then all of a sudden the dog jumped back. Lindsey quickly ran down the hillside, because we are thinking snake, and Holly is not a large dog. Well Holly found a fairly large female Three-toed Box Turtle. I must say I am not much of a dog person, but Holly was a trip. If all dogs behaved like Holly I might even change my mind. That dog was an absolute trooper, even thou at times she petered out and took a nap back at the truck. Kory did spot a Ribbon/Garter Snake. Probably a Ribbon.
Lindsey was kind enough to hold on to a Plain Belly and a Glossy Crayfish Snake found just a couple days before we arrived:

So off to our next adventure. We opted to split up. Kory and I spotted some basking turtles, but were unable to identify them. We also spotted a DOR snake, oh wait it was a string of firecrackers. That was a first for me. We did however come across another Rough Green Snake (no pics). I guess there are two parts to this story. I will tell Kory and mine. We again flipped and flipped, to only find the usual. We did however come across, in my opinion, the find of the trip. I loved the Buttermilk Racer, but this guy has been a monkey on my back. Kory saw it on the road, and it shot off in the ditch. I am glad he saw it in the ditch. In situ shot off in the ditch.

We met up with the others to observe our plunder. While waiting for the others to arrive, the Captain opted to take a break over by the trees. After about half way through I hear "I almost peed on a Buttermilk Racer". Only a foot or two from the place of business sat a small racer. It was not as colorful as the other so no pictures were taken. Well we had had the best day of the trip. Much picture taking occurred. As we were getting prepared for the orgy of picture taking, a car shot by with a young fellow with no shirt on. This turned out to be our new friend saltamachia. We may have to take you up on the gators some day. I will admit that our main goal was to find Corals and that is why we were not in optimal gator habitat.
More photos of the Western Slender Glass Lizard:

This is the plunder of the ladies and Jeremy. They can pipe in and tell the stories of what they found. I can not do them justice, because I was not there. I did not picture the Marbled Salamander, but they found a good number of these guys.
They found this nice Speckled King Snake:

Canebrake/Timber Rattlesnake:

And this very pretty Southern Copperhead:

This ends the herping portion of our little adventure. I would love to hear the others versions of parts of our adventures and I would love to see others pictures. I got some good pictures and some bad pictures. Would just like to see what others got.
I guess I should mention the frogs that we heard and saw. They were: Spring Peeper, Cricket Frog, Green Frog, Bullfrog, Cope's/Gray Treefrogs. not that exciting.
So we shot back to camp. Our plan was to depart by no later than what was it 1 or 2 in the afternoon. So at about 5 we are going through the drive through at Bugger King just behind the campsite. Well needless to say it was a long drive back. However before Jeremy and I's night was over we did have sighting of the "White Monster".
I or maybe another will begin a thread over in the Stories section. This thread will tell the tale of the evil centipede.
