Topic: Tom and I headed out again (Lonoke County 04/01/07)

Well Courtney and Ryan were supposed to come down this morning to go herping but I havent heard a peep from her since Friday so I dont know what happened there. I had decided if she didnt show that I would just stay home and pack but Tommy called and asked if I wanted to head out anyways so off we went! lol Decided to hit the surrounding area of the farms to look for Speckled adults, no luck though.

Farm #1
about a dozen Cottonmouths
about a dozen Watersnakes (1 baby Banded Water, first for the year)
couple of cute little Redear Slider hatchlings sunning on a log in a ditch
of course various turtles and frogs

Farm #2 (turned out to be a Ribbon day)
at least 20+ Ribbon Snakes (these are the nice aqua blue ones)
maybe a dozen Watersnakes (couple of big, nice 4ft+ Diamondback Waters on the banks)(also 1 baby Banded Water here as well)
1 Queen Snake (Tom and I are fairly certain it was a Queen and they arent known to range in that county, I have seen it before in the same pond we saw this one. Need to get pics of her to verify)
Various turtles and frogs

Found several waters in rodent traps around the 2nd farm, also several dead snakes in some of them as well sad

Tom took a few more pics than I did so I will wait and see what he has to offer as well.

hmm   POOP! I guess I misunderstood, I thought you were gonna get back with me on where to meet up, and when I didn't hear back, I just figured something came up.  I know things have got to be hectic trying to pack..I am sorry we missed out though! I really wanted to come down!!

I'm about to have an abruptly.

I assume the suspected Queen Snake wasn't captured?  Also, you might want to double-check your ID on the "Banded Watersnake"....looks pretty much like a Juvenile Plainbelly to me.

No the Queen wasnt captured, was at the edge of a pond and went under and disappeared when it saw us. Im sure right Kory on the water, lol. Im not a big waternsake person and I dont guess Ive ever seen a juvi plainbelly.

Sorry so I'm so late to post. The suspected queen snake wasnt captured otherwise it wouldnt be suspected. I did get a pretty good look at it and would say its at least worth a bit more effort to work that area again and see what turns up. Too bad Anjas leaving us. She is a genuinely nice person and an excellent herper as well. It would be nice to see her get that county record, especially since the academics say it doesnt exist there.

Ahh Thanks Tom! Ive truly enjoyed getting out and herping with you as of late! Its a shame we didnt get out and herp some last year together. I will definitely call you up when we come down for visits and try to get out some.
