Topic: Last Week and Such (Pics this time)
As I mentioned before, I went out last Tuesday with the General Ecology class. In addition to that I hit a spot with some others Thursday afternoon. To add even more, I released the animals from Springfest today (this provided the opportunity to take pictures).
First off these are some of the animals found last Tuesday:
Male Five-lined Skink

Worm Snake

Ringneck

Redbelly

Red Milk

While I did this I did flip a few rocks. Got both this Five-lined and a Fence under the same rock (yes the skink is making a run for it):

Not much luck on Thursday. I think many of the animals went back down, durring the cold spell. We did find a Copperhead, and the usuals. I opted to try and locate a water snake. I like having one of these on display at Springfest, to help educate the difference between them and Copperheads and Cottonmouths. I saw one medium sized Blotched Water Snake, and this large one that was in shed and not in good shape.

I opted to help her shed, but as I was doing this she was weezing very bad. Poor thing has some sort of in infection. So I put her away from the other animals, and we decided not to show her on Saturday. These are some pictures after her release (Good luck fair snake).

As I was releasing I hit a tin site (Also, met the strange girl squating in the abandoned house
). Got one juvie racer (not pictured, and we will ignore all the Ringnecks and Five-lined Skinks), but found this box turtle. Not often they pose for pictures.

And this Speckled King (Also, saw a DOR when doing all this driving today).

The tail was in bad shape, maybe some freeze damage or not.

Of course a few pictures from Springfest. This is one thing we like to do for outreach and education.
I wish more of the department would help us out and have some other ideas. We did have an evolution display in conjuction with the Anthropology department, but the snakes were more popular. We are a very popular booth. I hope that at least one kid or parent decides not to kill that one poor Garter Snake because we do this. Special thanks to all that helped (Van, Jeff, David, Mike, and Christy). Also, a big special thanks to Mulebrother (Brad). The Coachwhip was one of the favorites, and the rest did great. Many thought that poor little Hognose was a Copperhead.
Not a single person got bit, that was a first (maybe because we did not have a water snake).
