Topic: Nerodia in NE AR
I went out to Mallard Lake last night in Mississippi Co. to try to catch some diamondback watersnakes for my research. They were there of course, but I also found a broadbanded watersnake in the lake. I have found them before around the lake, but this was the first time I had ever found a species other than rhombifer in the lake (Coincidentally, it was the second broadbanded to bite me that day). I also caught two musk turtles...with snake tongs. Heard a ton of cricket frogs, some fowler's toads, some green frogs, saw a bullfrog. But the highlight of the trip for me was catching my first Mississippi Green Watersnake. They used to be very common in Mallard Lake until 1988, when a flood forced them onto the road and people slaughtered them. Again, this is the first time I have found a species other than rhombifer actually in the lake and there were two different new species in one night.
I'll try to get some pics of the green watersnake in the galleries soon since they are lacking. However, I'm not that technologically advanced so I may have to wait until Josh gets back on campus to show me how to do that!
The only difference between the government and the mafia is that the government calls its bill collector the “IRS” and the mafia calls its bill collector “Big Louie.”
NOBAMA: Keep the change.
