Topic: Some pics from herping down here in the Delta...

I just now took the time to figure out what BBCode was...so now I can post some pictures from recent outings.  But now that I have the pictures uploaded and saved the code to a word document, I can't remember which code goes to which pictures...sigh.  It's too early in the morning for me to be attempting this..I haven't even finished my first cup of coffee.
So, last night we found a couple of water snakes plus a copperhead and a big fat bullfrog.  I know bullfrogs aren't all that exciting, but I've ALWAYS wanted to catch one and have never been successful.
There are a couple of broad banded water snake we found...I took one home for more pics and then took it back to where we found it.  There is a diamondback water snake.  We found a pretty little cottonmouth the other night, but I had accidentally left my camera at home and the cell phone pics were crappy.

Thanks..it's the first one that I've ever seen up close and personal in the wild.  We moved it out of the road just in time too..it would have been road kill pretty soon.

Nice to see you enjoying the field herping. Got to love those Nerodia. They have such a sweet personality that makes a person want to hug them. wink

Ha..actually all of the Nerodia that we've found have been very even tempered except for one little diamondback from last night...it was one strikey bugger.  Have ya'll found a difference in temperament between the types of watersnakes.  We have been finding more broadbanned watersnakes than the other types and they have been very mellow.

Yes, I have found a difference. Diamondbacks seem to be the worst (I would not be surprised if Mississippi Greens are similar), maybe Midlands, then Yellowbellies in these parts. For sure Diamonds are the most evil.

Oddly enough, Van, jeremy, jerrod and I found a big dback last year on the arkansas river that was as docile as worm snake...but i agree, normally they dont calm down too well.

I don't know if any of you all remember that monster of a brown water snake i found down in crestview florida, but it was a very gentle, docile snake. And from what i've heard, the browns are usually aggresive biters.
