Topic: Neat snake (and a native one this time!)

This is a wild caught Arkansas snake.  I'm sure everyone can guess what it is.  This is for the nay-sayers that believe I'm only into exotics!

Quite a beautiful snake, and wild caught as an adult.  Of course I had to let it bite me (hint, it isn't venomous) b/c how often does someone that neat to their "things I've have bitten me" list?  I've never had this snake, but I can attest that it was quite a looker!

Not a W. Rat. I won't give it away. Bobby, Isn't it the species that we found (and let bite you) when we were catching Amphiuma last semester.

I at first thought Nerodia Rhombifer....but I thought that was too obvious for a bobbyneal triva piece...haha!

Yup Josh, that's the species.  I went to the site tonight (my truck is back in order! w00t!) and saw 6 Amphiuma in less than 3 minutes.  I caught some more of this species tonight for a zoo.  It is odd, these days I have to coax them into biting me.  The big one that I caught tonight came up between my feet as I was going after a smaller, very beautiful juvie.  I just reached down grabbed the large one and put it into a bag and it didn't fight.  Snakes just love me tongue, and you can attest to that.

I say rhombo.

Amazing that it survived in the wild like that.  I bet the other water snakes made fun of it a lot.

I'd vote nerodia as well.  That's an amazing looking WC.  yikes
I'm surprised it survived to that size, as well. Must've stayed WELL hidden.

I'm about to have an abruptly.

(In Arkansas) only Diamondback Water Snakes have light blotches on a dark background effect.  It might be a matter of perception(Are Zebras white with black stripes, or black with white stripes?)  The images of rhombifers that I use exaggerate the light blotches; the dark background resembles a chain. Well, Mississippi greens do have similar marks along the side...but greens don't have the overall 'chain' effect.
