Topic: A Couple of MODs Added
Based on past suggestions, I finally set down tonight to install a few modifications to the forum... I had marginal success at best.
1) Forum/Gallery Integration -- Once working, this should "link" users between the forum and gallery, so members of the forum will automatically be given permissions to upload pictures, etc. Way back when, this used to be working and I've been waiting a LONG time for the script to be updated for use in the new forum. Unfortunately, it seems there are plenty of glitches left to work out. (Things look pretty awful, for example, if you view the memberlist.) I have submitted some bugs to the author; hopefully I will have some fixes to apply soon.
2) RSS Feeds -- Seems to be working OK...though I might try something a little more configurable in the future. Check the homepage or feeds page to see it in action.
3) Chat -- Be careful what you ask for! Live chatting is now available. Fieldherpers.com has been running a chat program for a couple of weeks now and I have to be honest that I haven't been too crazy about it. I don't know that this one is much better, but it was easy to install (and to uninstall).
I'm not going to bother with styling it to match the SOA theme just yet. I guess people can tell me what they think about it and go from there.
4) Hide Bot -- It's been requested to hide the online status for those search engine bots that frequent the forum...like GoogleBot, etc. I tried a MOD that...well...didn't work. Maybe it will be updated to work soon in the future?
5) Mass Email -- The mass emailing function of the forum has been a real failure! I think there may be a couple of "Newsletter" type MODs that will allow something more useful in the future, but nothing really seems very robust yet.
** I also adjusted the forum cookie settings with all of this. You may have to clear your browser cookies for logging in and such to work properly again.
