Topic: New website design +'s & -'s

Anyone have any constructive criticisms on the new design?

I dont like the 'single' recent pictures style... on the home page

Is the gallery stuff complete...?   The pictures used to represent each gallery arent the best choices in my opinion...and the info stuff you can click on...is it gone/broken?  I clicked on wood frog info and came up blank...

Anyone else have any greivances to air?:D

Not tryin to beat on the webmaster...but there are a few things I think need looked at...or is it just me?  I kept thinkin some of this stuff was just during the transition period...but maybe they are 'permanent'?

ANyway, just my 10 cents...Its still probably the most visited one on my computer...

I have not visited all of the spots that B speaks of but I will say that I do like the quick quote function a ton.

Re: New website design +'s & -'s

I think the little pictures showing each category in the gallery are like randomly shown...because each time i go to the gallery a new picture is representing said category.

Nice to see Ole B all fired up though...didnt know he had moxy! haha

I appreciate all feedback of course.

I wasn't sure what this was about at first...but then checked at school on IE 6.0 and they are in a single column.  They appear correctly in double columns on Firefox.  Does anyone use IE 7?  Assuming it looks OK in IE 7, I probably won't worry about it.  IE 6 is notorious for...well...just being bad.

No, not quite.  Except for one major thing--identifying photographers for "unmarked" pictures--it is mostly just tweaking a little here and there as I come across stuff.

This, I think, is currently set to "random".  Other choices are "latest" and a specific icon.  I've given you editing rights now, so feel free to make improvements.  smile

Not sure.  Probably you can do what you expect now with editing rights.  (The gallery does have some idiosyncrisies(sp?) about how to do this though.  Basically just click on the text itself and--assuming you are logged in--you'll be able to edit on the spot.)

Which?  ...and what should have been different?

If it isn't on the To Do list, it is more or less permanent.  Not to say that it can't be changed or reconsidered.

Specifically about the gallery...  It was pretty much a big pain to transfer it over and cleaning it up was not trivial.  I am sure there are still many things that need fixed.  Just let me know when you run across them, or fix them yourself (is prefered).  And even with that, I'm still only lukewarm about the new gallery program.  It's shocking that nothing is available that quite perfectly fits our needs...and our needs are relatively modest.  I will continue to shop around for something better, but for the foreseeable future it is what it is.

Thanks for helping make the site better.

I use IE 7 and they are in a single column.

I've increased the size of that section by 2 pixels to hopefully fit 2 columns of pics.  I'll check it in IE6 tomorrow at school.  Might be something else weird going on, but this would be the easy fix if it works.

Still a single column...

Okay, now they are in a double row.

Yes, but with a lot of wasted space.  I still have to investigate why IE is interpreting that space differently than Firefox.  At least I know where to look for resolution though.

Re: New website design +'s & -'s

Sorry, been away from computer for a few days...

What I am still not getting, and maybe this is operator skill...but just for example...say i want to read up on crawfish frogs...I go to the gallery, click on them...that brings up a page with a bunch of stuff like
"Description" "habitat" "life history", etc etc etc...Click on any of those and you get NOTHING
The only one of those 'fields' that actually contain something is the bibliography...but used to, i could go read the stuff on a species account, now its gone on the ones i have recently checked (wood frog and crayfish frog in recent memory)

Like i said, i had chalked it up to the transition, but i didnt figure you'd get rid of everything except pictures now would you?   Maybe its something with the settings on my machine or IE or something...but all I know is, when i click on anything on a specific animals 'page' i get nothing...

let me know if that dont make sense.

Actually, for those species it was never there.  Only snakes, lizards, and about 2 turtle species have accounts written for them so far.  The rest still just have a skeleton outline.  I've tried for 4+ years to get people to help me write them.

I seem to have fixed the wasted space issue now.  Let me know if you run across anything else that looks funky.
