Topic: Herps are moving

Driving home from Mena this evening I saw several DOR's, mostly rat and racers. I stopped four times for AOR's 1 I believe was a small copper head but it was gone when I turned around. The others were a rough green, a black rat and a glass lizard. This is the 3rd glass lizard i've seen since moving to AR just over a year and a half ago.  Cool little suckers! big_smile

Nice! I've found mainly DOR coppers and nerodias! Have found a few AOR's but they were brown snakes, and one Prairie king! I can almost taste the road cruising weather!

Ditto.  Only one I ever found was in LA, so it's still on my AR "to find" list.  I've already knocked off a couple from the list so far this year (Mudpuppy and Marbled Salamander), so I'm on a pretty good pace.  I thought if I could get 3-4, I'd be doing good.

They sure are moving, but I think prime road cruising time is still a little ways away. With that said, I did go out last night. Found a ribbon two browns and a rough earth. One of the browns and the rough earth were thick. They are predicting temps in the 90s for today and tomorrow.

Saw a DOR hognose on the way home last night, within sight of my house to boot  sad

Gonna go out poking around some tonight, more out of restlessness than anything. Never know what you might see though  tongue

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention that I got up to let my dog out to pee about 11:30pm last night and there was a Ring-necked Snake on the prowl on the front porch...literally 2 steps from the door.  Temps must have been mid-50s, too.  Also, caught 4 Brown Snakes while mowing the yard the other day.  When you have a mouth to feed, these little snakes become quite exciting finds.  HA!

Today I found a Prairie King being pecked on by a couple of Ravens. It was still moving when I got the birds off, and there were no external wounds, but it soon started writhing around belly up... then came blood from the nose and mouth. Oh well... I'll find another!

Don't hate me guys; I can't help it that this Yankee transplant has had some good fortune here in Hillbilly land.   lol

Was this in Arkansas?  I didn't know we had ravens.
