Field Trip Details:
Who? AHS field trips are open to members and nonmembers alike. If you are interested in finding herps in the wild and meeting with others who like to do the same, you are invited and encouraged to join us.
What? It's a field trip! AHS field trips are a fun experience if you have never attended one. Our ranks include newbies, hobbyists, graduate students, science professionals, and even youngsters (our "herpetologists in training"). We share a family-like camaraderie and welcome newcomers with open arms.
When? October 8th, 9th & 10th, 2010. What most people will do is arrive Friday evening and leave Sunday midmorning. Most of the herpin' FUN will happen on Saturday.
Where? White Oak State Park, Bluff City, Arkansas. We will also have access to herp Poison Springs WMA
Facilities include: ** AHS will have the overflow area reserved for this event. There will be plenty of parking adjacent to the camp area to minimize impact on other campers. Bathroom and Shower house is within walking distance. There should be a communal electric point and water available on site.
Other amenities include: a store with supplies, bait and gifts (open throughout the year); marina with boat rentals; launch ramp; barrier-free fishing pier; standard pavilion; picnic sites; hiking trails, almost 10 miles of mountain bike trails and a playground. The visitor center includes exhibits and a CD interactive program and offers bicycle rentals.
Directions:From I-30 at Prescott, travel 20 miles east on Ark. 24, then go 100 yards south on Ark. 299, then go two miles outheast on Ark. 387 You can also find access from I-30 exiting in Arkadelphia or Gurdon ((its the ghost light..00OO000oo))
Cost? There is NO COST for attending the trip itself. Camping fees will be $ 5.00 per person, whether you camp one night or both. A donation jar will be available to accept camping fees and help offset the cost of group meals. Fees and Donations can also be prepaid via PAYPAL
(FYI- **It generally costs about $200.00 for all group meals and supplies for 25-30 people)
Food? To reduce impact of multiple campfires, maintain schedules and communication- group meals will be prepared and served fireside on Friday evening, Saturday morning and Saturday evening. A simple Hot Dog lunch will be prepared Saturday Noon for those that wish to partake - first come first serve. Attendees should otherwise plan to bring their own lunches, drinks and snacks.
