Re: Fall '10 Field Trip Discussion

I'm assuming the over flow camping area will be a group area where we can set up anywhere rather than having assigned camping spots; is that correct?

Thanks!

There are 4 "tent only" campsites within the overflow area. These sites all have a table, fire pit, grill, etc. We will just spread out (not too much) within these 4 sites and pick one for the "kitchen" and community campfire.

If you go to the link below. These sites are in between sites 25 and 26 but aren't actually on the map. It is a big area and is apparently really nice.

The overflow area is just to the NW of the amphitheater; turn off will be to the right/uphill as you drive in.  I don't remember it being all that big, but should be sufficient for our group.  Large, flat areas for pitching tents could be at a premium.

Re: Fall '10 Field Trip Discussion

OK, I may have misspoke...  I'm not sure if WOLSP is giving us the *true* overflow area or the tent area?

Re: Fall '10 Field Trip Discussion

*true* overflow area..... this was the only section within the park where they could be a little more lenient on number of persons per site, etc

Re: Fall '10 Field Trip Discussion

K since I was apparently confused, I just called the SP. "Our" area is, like Kory said, about halfway between the amphitheater and the restroom near the visitor's center. She said there is a gate where we enter the overflow. I'm not sure what all the "sites" will include because the individual I spoke with wasn't real sure. We can call back in a day or two to get more details.

Re: Fall '10 Field Trip Discussion

OK, it sounds like it will be similar to what we've done in the past. I thought I had better ask though because if they were going to give us designated camp sites then we would be pretty spread out and none of the sites are really very big as I recall from this spring when I was down there.

Since this one is probably...25 miles from my apartment, im sure Ill make it. haha

But ill go ahead and say i will not be partaking in any Gurdon light outings. Ive been talked into it twice and regretted both times haha and at the Arkadelphia Walmart, I deal with PLENTY colorful characters from Gurdon, i have no want to deal with any "dead" ones. haha

Yeah, as much as I love ghosts (I've been on multiple 'ghost hunts' back home), herping is a little more important to me. Hahah

Re: Fall '10 Field Trip Discussion

You got me beat, Ryan. I am 34 miles according to google. I wonder where all the good coral spots are? Anybody know the hot spots?

I enjoy a good ghost hunt, but this one doesn't sound like it's worth the hike.

That's the problem, "good coral spots" don't seem to exist in AR. That said, there have been several found in the park where we will be and there is great habitat all around. So we will be in a "good spot". Just have to hope for LOTS of good luck.

Re: Fall '10 Field Trip Discussion

As the day approaches...the weather forecast doesn't look so good.  If a surprise rain doesn't pop up unexpectedly, it's going to be very dry.  Herping is likely to be pretty poor...not that I'm trying to rain on anyone's parade.   sad

Night temps are going to be downright chilly, so be ready to bundle up.  Hope we have a hefty supply of firewood.

Re: Fall '10 Field Trip Discussion

Weather.com shows a 0% chance of rain. It also shows that September was unusually dry so things may be very tricky.

Hope we have a hefty supply of firewood.

They are currently under a burn ban, so the firewood may not matter  sad .
