Re: herping in oklahoma?

There can be good herping just about anywhere in Arkansas or Oklahoma, you just have to do a little looking.
Best thing I can recommend is to download Google Earth if you don't already have it. (It's free)
Second best thing would be to learn how to use it. Use it to find any open habitat in your area.  Woods, prairies, anything. We're coming into the best part of the year, and flipping has started. Go out and flip over rocks, or junk around properties.

VERY IMPORTANT though. Make sure you put everything back how it was before you flipped it.

You don't need a lot of land. Even an acre is suitable habitat to possibly produce something.

Above everything though, just remember to have fun. If you don't find anything right away, just keep working at it and you'll be rewarded greatly when you do start to find stuff.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Where do you live? I live about an hour north of Tulsa and work at the Tulsa Zoo. One of the other herp keepers found a TX Brown Snake on one of our service roads this morning. Also, our resident Crayfish Snakes and Nerodia sp. have started basking near the ponds as well.

i live in Tulsa, i plan to get some herping done before i have to go back to school Monday. i found a baby garter snake this morning, she looks like a neighborhood cat tried to play with her so i'm keeping her for a little while until shes able to be set free.
