Topic: crawfish snake

I just had to get out with the weather being so nice today.  I went back to the same vicinity that I found the mudsnake at and found a couple things.  The first log I flipped had a ambystoma texanum under it (New County Record) and a few logs later I found another one.  A little while later I flipped a juvenile crawfish snake (Regina rigida).  This is the first one that I have found and it is also a new county record.  I found a shell of a razorback musk turtle.  I think since it has been so dry, the few logs that have water under them seem to produce.  Maybe it will storm tomorrow and bring some needed rain.

Here are some pics  ( I will try to get some better ones later). I had one of my students snap a few quick pics with his camera.

Sweetness.  That Mudsnake would be tempting to see if you could get it to take frog-scented pinky mice.   tongue

And you should definitely try this with the Crayfish Snake:
