Topic: FINALLY!
So this herping season has been rather slow for since I've been swamped with school work. I was beginning to get rather discouraged by only finding Prairies lizards, skinks, S. Leopards, toads and some sallies, but I FINALLY got a bit of luck tonight in finding my first snakes of the year tonight.
This particular walking trail is known for at numerous species of herps, but I've had the hardest time locating the "vicious" Cottonmouths that people swear cover the place. As I was walking along the bank I looked down a slope and found this little beauty curled up next to the water.
He never even moved during the whole "photo shoot"
The next little guy I found was only 20 feet ahead on the pavement crossing it. My friend and I would have stepped on it had she not pointed it out to me (I was busy staring at the pictures I had just taken). He was a lot more active than the Cottonmouth, but still very docile. And stupid me forgot tongs or a hook so I had to resort to using a stick I found to maneuver this little guy.
Loved the color on this guy.
Who wouldn't love that face?
Well, that's all I have to show right now. Nothing special, but it's the most herp action I've seen all year! ![]()
