Topic: Heavy Rains Bring Forth Good Finds!!!

Hey all,
If you get any chance tonight and have any interest in amphibians whatsoever...get OUT!  These heavy rains have been like magic!  Stuff is calling like crazy, stuff is moving like crazy.  Strecker's Chorus Frogs were out in force along the Arkansas River last night.  I heard, but did not visually confirm, Crawfish Frogs.  And I even have a tasty surprise or two to share soon.   wink

A little bird filled me in on this last night. Congratulations on the finds, especially your "tasty surprise". I Wish my truck was out of the shop. I would be up there tonight.

I'm gonna try and go out for Crawfish frogs tonight... but we'll see.

... HOWEVER, flooding is really serious in NW AR, so, eh, maybe don't get out tonight.

Yeah it's pretty bad on the roads I would want to hit around here..Bella Vista got it pretty good, Fayetteville and Prairie Grove are apparently swimming

Didn't get far out tonight, but Crawfish Frogs in Benton County were calling...from their burrow entrances, not breeding pools.  I thought it was already well past their prime breeding time and this was confirmed tonight.  I think maybe the calls tonight were more about territory since the males seemed to have spaced themselves about equally in the field I was searching...and calls were echoed by nearest neighbors.  With a lot of patience, I did finally spot a couple of them and snapped a couple of pictures of one.  This species is one of the most leery I know!...really tough to get up on.
