Topic: night of the amphibians (dont get too excited, this was from mid march
A little over a month ago...before spring had sprung...my son and I were chompin at the bit to get out and start herping. A warm, rainy night was all we needed- so with his friends in tow, we headed out to some salamander breeding ponds. With matching outfits.

Rubber boots? Check. Dip nets? Check. Matching Backyard Safari Outfitters Herping Vest? Check

First pond was full of Spotted Sallies dropping their eggs...

Fowler's and American toads were going crazy too...

here's a fowler's looking american toad..or at best a hybrid...

Typical american toad

Walking to the second pond, my son's friend spotted a leopard frog in the leaves.

"Daddy, heres some another one giving a piggy back ride!" We learned a new word that night: AMPLEXUS

A good time was had by all...even my son's friend's dad...I'll turn him to herping yet!

Then we road cruised this on the way home...
Actually, it was part of Van's collection I inherited. Glenn volunteered to take the pair of Pituophis deppei jani off my hands...

Just had to snap a couple pics of these stunning animals before they went to their new home.
Thats all folks!
