Topic: Boone / Newton county cruise.

I took a drive through southern Boone and northern Newton counties today. The trip was both disheartening and exciting for me. Sadly I did not find a single living snake. What i did find was numerous rat snakes and racers that had fallen victim to traffic. For the area that is normal. The surprise came when I found the first Eastern Hognose I have seen in the wild (alive or dead) in about 15 years. Unfortunately it was also a casualty of the road, but it was a very large and impressive female. I really want to find another like it that is alive and healthy to photograph, I just hope I don't have to wait 15 more years. Any tips I could get on finding one would be appreciated. I get a lot of conflicting info online about their preference of habitat. neutral

That stinks!

Ever wonder why conservatives are called the right and liberals are called the left?

I always am saddened to see any dead animal on the road, but herps are especially sad because they are not able to escape quickly like larger aniamls. The sound of frogs "popping" under my tires makes me cringe. Its like my mama says: Nature and cars don't mix.  sad
