Topic: Boone / Newton county cruise.
I took a drive through southern Boone and northern Newton counties today. The trip was both disheartening and exciting for me. Sadly I did not find a single living snake. What i did find was numerous rat snakes and racers that had fallen victim to traffic. For the area that is normal. The surprise came when I found the first Eastern Hognose I have seen in the wild (alive or dead) in about 15 years. Unfortunately it was also a casualty of the road, but it was a very large and impressive female. I really want to find another like it that is alive and healthy to photograph, I just hope I don't have to wait 15 more years. Any tips I could get on finding one would be appreciated. I get a lot of conflicting info online about their preference of habitat. ![]()
