Topic: western slender glass lizard

this past saturday night my wife and I were turning loose 4 flat head snakes I caught around our apartment complex. Everyone thinks they are copperhead babys but instead of listening to me that there harmless the owners opt to kill them so once ot twice a year I capture and relocate them. Anyway as we were driving down one of the roads at old fort chafee my wife yells snake so when i got out i seen what resembled a smooth scale garter snake that had been ran over but upon further inspection i realized it had eyelids but didnt have legs confused i came home and looked it up finding out it was a western slender glass lizard. Which im not sure how rare they are but it was an amazing find except he was dead.

Man, chaffee must be a good locale on those...jeremy and eric both have found them out there or near there.  I have yet to see one in arkansas.  Get some pics next time!

Re: western slender glass lizard

This is his wife: We took some pics on my cell phone but the lizard was dead. We took the pics to identify exactly what it was bacuase we have been driving around out there for 3 years and have not seen anything like it. We were stunned to have learned it was a lizard and not a snake. I think it was mistaken for a snake and therefor run over. I have seen people run over snakes. I hate when that happens because the snakes pose no harm to them yet their dislike for snakes makes them run over and kill them. Since all the redevlopment going on out there we haven't seen as many snakes as we used to. They just need to leave nature alone.
