Topic: Herping after church

My sons and I went out today and flipped 1 milk, 1 speckled king, 1, ring neck (yes, only 1 LOL), & 3 worm snakes. We also saw 1 AOR and 1 DOR racer. Aaron spotted a rough green amongst some vegetation.
Other finds included 2 fowlers toads, 2 ground skinks, 2 fence lizards and a 5 lined skink.

I was a little concerned to find  that  one of the areas hit on the field trip had numerous rocks that were not replaced where they belonged.
I'm not saying it was anyone from the AHS. This is an easy area to get to and anyone could have been there in the past week.  But I will use this opportunity to encourage everyone, whether AHS members or visitors reading this forum to please make every effort when flipping rocks to place them back as you found them. I realize rocks slide sometimes but if you are able to move it try to put it back where it came from.

Thanks!

Eric

You found your milk snake smile YAY!  Pics?  I thought it'd be too cool to be finding anything.  Ready for some warm weather.

I'm about to have an abruptly.

Re: Herping after church

Thanks! I have found quite a few milks, but they had all been while road cruising. That's really odd to this transplanted northerner; in all my years of herping in IL. and Mo. I had only found 2 or 3 milks on the road. Almost every other milk was found while flipping.

As far as temps go, this is great weather for flipping milks, the air may be cool, but the sun warms the rocks nicely.  big_smile

Sorry the pic isn't better but it was taken with my iphone

Nice shot Eric. It also bugs me when I see habitat that has been disturbed and not replaced. I guess some people either don't realize or don't care that the loss of those microhabitats can be a death sentence to the species that occupy them.
