Topic: Updates on field herping?

Hasn't been a whole lot posted lately, other than a few road cruising finds by Courtney and co.  Just curious what everyone else has been doing.  Has anyone been out recently and just not found much?

I've just about decided to wait for a break in the weather or until the next new moon before getting too ambitious.  Even the night time temps right now are hovering in the 80's until very, very late.

Re: Updates on field herping?

I have just been cruising with Courtney.  My old boss killed a pygmy the other morning sad .  He is not a snake person and I told him if he saw anymore to let me know and someone would remove it.  Another friend who does not get on here cruised a pygmy the other night about the same time as me and Courtney.  I have cruised and found a couple things when I have some by myself but mainly just copperheads.

Re: Updates on field herping?

I've been on nights for the last seven weeks and I drive about a hundred miles a night routinely.  Until a couple of weeks ago I saw something reptilian on the road pretty much every night.  In the last two weeks I haven't found ANYTHING...Last night it was in the 90's when I got to work at 10.   sad  Seems like this year its all or nothing.

I haven't  been out since a week ago Thursday. That night we only saw 2 copper heads.  When road temps are near 100 at midnight, it's just too hot.

Re: Updates on field herping?

Cruising a lot of pigs (well about 1 a night..which is a lot for me lol) About 2/3 of them are DOR.
It is so hot my habanero plants jumped in our pool.

I want to go out again tonight, last night got cancelled early due to teen drama.  Today's been really tough emotionally, so I dunno if I will roll out or not.  Could use some road time, though.

I'm about to have an abruptly.

Haven't cruised since the same night Eric is talking about, 2 coppers. Other than that, I've found a few erythrogaster, rough greens, and cottons while walking some creek and pond edges at night in Sebastian, Crawford, and Franklin Counties.

How big are your habanero's? Mine aren't growing that well, I may need to up the watering.

Been restricting what little herping time I've had lately to swimming and wadeing creeks and rivers for aquatic turtles. Plenty of Sipes and cottons still out. Turtle finds include Northern Map, Spiny Softshells, And Eastern Musks so far.

not very..they pretty much withered..lol  I'm terrible with plants.  The Gigantic slugs here eat all my plants.

I've been living in the creeks too, it's so hot out it's miserable. Been seeing tons of Nerodia and loads of bullfrogs, haven't been out late enough to see Cottonmouths at the normal spot lately.

I'm about to have an abruptly.

Re: Updates on field herping?

Turned up a juvenile cottonmouth while moving some stuff on my property. Resident Western Rat snake eating a chicken egg a few evenings ago, again on my property. A nice healthy Timber on the side of the highway a few miles from my house last week after a rain storm cooled things down a little.
