Topic: Alligator Snapper Shells Found in Old Shop (pics)

While cleaning out my grandmas old shop after she passed I found 2 old Alligator Snapping turtle Shells. No telling how old they are. I have a vague memory of seeing them in there as a young kid. Apparently a field hand caught them on a trot line and killed them to eat. The upper shells were left in the shop for years. One is much bigger than the other. I plan to use them for my biology classes this year. A taxidermist I know is bringing me a skull too. This will be my first year teaching so I'm getting all kinds of materials together. I just set up a nice exo-terra cage for my big 6"+ Panama Red Rump tarantula. Ahh I'm getting off topic! Here are the shells:

Awesome find! Or...re-find. Your thread with all the pics and vids is just insane. I must admit I'm not a huge arachnid fan, and crap knows my classroom is crawling with far more recluses than I care to even consider, but I can certainly appreciate their ecological role and evolutionary history. They are phenomenal hunters and survival machines to be sure. I am very impressed with the diversity of your collection.

You mention your classes. Where do you teach?

Hey thanks Chance! I no longer have everything in my photo thread. My collection is constantly changing. Trades, sells, etc. You know how it goes. It's hard to decide which is my favorite, herps or arachnids. If I couldn't have both I'd probably lean towards arachnids though (specifically tarantulas). This will be my very first year teaching so I'm gathering all kinds of resources and materials. Anything I can get my hands on! I want to provide something visual for my students that they can interact with. I'll be teaching Biology for sure, but I haven't seen my whole class schedule yet. My licensure is in Life/Earth Science, so I could be teaching anything in those areas. I'll be teaching at Hughes High School. We are moving to Hughes Thursday, so I may be away for awhile until internet gets set up.
