Topic: Back before it was 113 every day...
Well, I guess its time to get caught up on a few things...
As usual, summer has flown by WAAAAAY too fast...been tryin to get these up for a while. Since we've been over 100 for more than 30 days now, herping is akin to mid january- ie; dont waste your time. Road cruising has even died. Anyway, I got nothing better to do today than sit in the A/C (air conditioner) and post some pics from May. Enjoy.

I gotta hand it to my boy...he's coming right along. He found both these here in the yard back to back in about 20 minutes. Needless to say, he was pretty proud of himself. A couple years ago, he came running up with a midland brown he'd flipped and was like "Dad, check it out..." I said "what is it?". He said "uh.....its a....uh...a...." At that point, I cut a switch and lit him up. THen we had a lesson on not picking something up unless you are 100% sure what it is...granted...I think he knew what it was, just couldnt remember the name, but we've had no more un-id'd snake incidents.

Some time in there I had a guy at work tellin me about these big lizards he finds all over his place...Said he thought they were broadheaded skinks...naturally, I assumed he was just seeing 5 lined, so one day he brought one to me his kids caught...after some close examination on some photos (not these) it is fasciatus, albeit a big one.

After all the tornados and stuff this spring...late May finally brought on some hot temps to get roadcruising going. It was short lived though...after a couple 20+ snake nights, we went back for a couple 1 & 2 copperhead nights. At $3.50 a gallon gas, there is no way to justify it until we get some cooler temps and rain.

Not sure why...but these guys are more often than not, the first snake of the night. This one wouldnt stay still, so I had to settle for a pic in hand.

Ark/Ok version of a regal ringneck! That knife is about 7" long.

This is what we live for. Thats a copperhead nearest the car, a timber in the background.

Sadly, a good night for roadcruising usually means a good night for DOR's. Since us rednecks are all into this green energy and recycling, we collect the freshest ones and feed them to Eric's Indigos. Funny too, we had a policeman pull us over on the way back (late) and we showed him this to prove to him we WERE actually looking for snakes.

This one misplaced his rattle.

No, we didnt find it this way.

Well, thats about it...
Stand by for a vacation post.
Good herping,
B
