That Oxy is too much to bare!  cool

Such an awesome snake. It ended up latching on and chewing it's rear 'fangs' into me a bit too with a nice little venomous reaction. My pinky and palm swelled up a little and my pinky became super stiff and hard to bend for a couple hours.

Re: Arizona!

Our final night of roadcruising wasn't the most eventful but we did manage 4 snakes, all babies.

This little orange scute was the first snake in the mix:

Crotalus scutulatus - Mohave rattlesnake

Shortly after that little guy, we cruised a two button sidewinder, followed by another button atrox, neither of which I shot. The last snake of the night was a lifer for me (subspecies wise at least) and a new find for the trip.

Arizona elegans noctivaga - Arizona glossy snake

Re: Arizona!

The next morning we woke up to cruise for Salvadora hexalepis hexalepis - Desert patchnose snakes but we struck out, only finding one neonate DOR. Natalie had never seen a Chuckwalla before, so I suggested we stopped at one more of my spots (in Riverside County, CA) where I knew we could easily score one real quick. I was right. Within 30 seconds of stepping out of the car, I spotted a good sized male up on some rocks. A couple minutes of rockhopping and sneaking up, I easily had this guy in hand:

Sauromalus ater - Common chuck

Besides that guy, we saw some of these and was able to finally check this guy off the list, as I had somehow never found one before...

Dipsasaurus dorsalis dorsalis - Northern desert iguana

That's about it. Later that day, I ended up reaching my old stomping grounds in northern CA, only for it to be super wet and cold.

I LOVE the desert Iggys

Re: Arizona!

We saw 9 or 10 of them, but it was around 100 degrees so they were all sorts of fired up and would run straight into burrows. Luckily I chased this one into a creosote bush that didn't have any burrows beneath it, so it was just a matter of managing to get it into a position we could grab it.

Re: Arizona!

LOL when I was a kid we would put nets over the burrows and they would run into them.  It took some time to figure it out but it worked.  They were in isolated areas but when you found them they were all over the area.
