Topic: Timber Rattlesnake Strike & Tracking *Video*

This is why I'm so hard on my friends that haven't seen exactly what these larger Crotes (and some small Sistrurus) are capable of:

I thought the tracking was really neat..It's sort of long, but to watch the snake track it's prey was pretty cool.

I'm about to have an abruptly.

Really neat video.  I caught this on FHF and was wondering if anyone was ever going to post it here.  Glad you did.

That Timber flew out from under that rock!!!!! I'd say 2 times it's body lenth. Wow great video. That squirl knew somthing was up but it was to late. Funny how the snake made a full circle before it found it.

Yeah it popped up on my Facebook the other day, been meaning to share it.
It's such a cool video.  Not something most people get to see.

There's a vast difference between captive snakes in terms of behavior, but the potential is ALWAYS there.  I always think of the capability of snakes like this, and then the even more extreme ability of snakes like Bitis species (Gaboons in particular) so many people get them thinking they are just big slugs..lol  A Gab in feeding mode could blow this little Timber out of the water.  Unreal!

Even those little Pygs can shoot across the cage if they feel like it..lol  It's kinda cute, but if you make the mistake of the "2/3 of body length strike range" you may be in for a VERY unpleasant experience.

I'm about to have an abruptly.

I cruised a kinda small helleri just outside Los Angeles last year that was striking hard enough to get almost all of it's body off the ground. Plus it slid on the cement with every strike, so it was easily clearing it's full body length after that. It's amazing what they're truly capable of.

LOL!  HAHA! It's cute when it's not in immediate vicinity of an appendage.
