Topic: Girl faints and falls on my snake table!
On Sat. 9/10 there was a dedication of the Arkansas 9/11 Memorial during South Arkansas Outdoor Expo in El Dorado. As always (in my safari hat) I had my Snake Challenge table in the Kids World tent-5 snakes: juvie broadband, juvie mudsnake, Midland brown and 2 garter-and a tub of water for my broadband to swim in. I had roped off the sidewalk so that nobody could get behind the table to bother the live snakes or the fake painted snakes I had arranged next to the shrubbery (on the side of the convention center building.)
The temps were unexpectedly high (90+) and the ceremony had several speakers. A girl-around 18 was stepping over the rope and as I tried to politely stop her, I saw that she was suffering from heat exhaustion-just as she fell onto my table face-first into the tub of water! There was a huge gasp from all the volunteers in the tent as the table nearly fell over!
(my brother caught it) The girl fell onto the sidewalk and I put my arm behind her head and barely prevented her from hitting the back of her head!
Some people came to help her; (EMTs etc) and she was OK-just got too hot, I guess. At first I thought that people were gonna think that the snakes were somehow to blame-I know it's silly and paranoid.(Later, the campus policeman told me that he nearly shot my rubber timber rattler!) But when some people found out that I had helped the girl they were appreciative. ![]()
