Topic: Tips on Brumating Lizards?

Its time for my Collared Lizards to start Brumating. Anyone have any tips on what to keep them in so as to keep their temps stable and in the 50's for a couple months?  I have a 1.1 pair that have been doing very well but I can tell they are getting themselves ready for the offseason. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam

Re: Tips on Brumating Lizards?

I know this is late, but I normally pull my gilas and beadeds off food for two weeks before cooling and place them into the garage, against an insulated garage door... I keep a large water dish in the tubs with them, I keep them in an ARS 8018 rack and set the rheostat for 55*F... I put them down late October and bring them back up mid March, while checking on them weekly to make sure their water is good to go.

Re: Tips on Brumating Lizards?

Jeff,  thanks for the reply (late is better than never! Lol). I "woke" them back up a couple weeks ago and they are doing great! Luckily we had a light winter so keeping their temps stable was pretty easy. I put them in a tub with dirt/sand and rocks and put it in a shed. I checked on them every couple of days to refill their water and make sure they looked healthy. They usually paid me no attention or they looked at me with a look of "turn the lights off!!!". Anyways, they are doing great again in their old home and I am looking forward to another year of their crazy behavior!
