Topic: Field Site Recommendations for UALR Dissertation on N. sipedon
Hello all,
My name is Jeremy Chamberlain. I am a new Ph.D. candidate at the University of Arkansas Little Rock, working with Dr. Matthew Gifford. As a part of my dissertation research, I plan to investigate potential life-history trade-offs in reproductive traits of N. sipedon along an elevation gradient. To answer this question, we were hoping to find pregnant females in the Ouachita Mountains at high elevations as well as snakes at lower elevations near Little Rock. While we have found several low elevation sites near Little Rock to collect females, we are still looking for sites in the mountains. I was wondering if any one has a site that they would be willing to share with me where I can collect pregnant female N. sipedon in reasonable numbers.
I am currently in the process of getting my own collectors permit, which should be finalized early this spring. But I am currently under Dr. Gifford's permit for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
Thanks,
Jeremy Chamberlain
