What else would a frog be if it's not an amphibian?  Do all frogs have a tadpole stage?

More or less...  Our local species are pretty boring on this regard, but there is a lot of crazy variation in exotic species.  It sounds like this species passes the larval stage inside the egg before hatching as a fully-formed frog.  It isn't entirely unique as many frog species do the same thing.
