Topic: The day of the sNaKes

Yo, how is everybody doing? Anyone went on herping today? I wen to a little lake close to my house that I check almost every weekend but havent seen, not ONE snake since september until today and saw about 12, they were swimming around every where, it was a awesome look. There were a few that I could not see clearly to edentify but I saw 4 Broad banded water snakes and one big that I cought, they other 3 were smaller ones, I also found 1 milk snake, 1 baby diamondback water snake and guess what... I found my first venomous snake ever, a Cottonmouth about same size that was in st francis forest. I almost jumped on him because I thoght it was the big yellowbelly watersnake that I saw earlier that im sure I saw 3 times today, I even graped the tail of the cottonmouth but saw something was different , He didnt strike at me but just laid there hoping that I didnt see him. This watersnake that I guess is a yellowbelly is HUGE, I hope I can catch him later  and next time I will take my camera! I just got the dimaondback and the big broad banded which is a beauty! If anyone finds something this weekend, post it here please  smile
Thx!

Re: The day of the sNaKes

sounds like a sucessful weekend.  I've only found a few snakes here and there.  Friday I found 4 garter snakes.  They were small and it was funny to see this boy that was helping me be a bit nervous about holding one himself.  Seems lately I only get chances to go out for a little while at a time so I'm guessing that's why I don't see toooo much.  One of these days I'll really have to make a day of it and see what I can find.  I have family coming to visit at the end of June, I'll go on a few trips while they're here.  I'm sure I'll have some great stories by then.

Re: The day of the sNaKes

i had snakes all over me today but came away without one successful capture. they all were able to make it to water without me getting a good hand on them most were yellowbellied water snakes then one speckled king snake and one diamond back water snake i think and i saw one other snake i couldnt id it was in the water and i only saw three colors red yellow and black and it was about two to three foot long

Ready for school to let out so i can work and catch snakes (i work on a farm so i see lots of them)
