Topic: Great Day on the Cache River 5/15/05

Went for a nice trip down a section of the Cache River Sunday.  I saw so many snakes that even that night when I closed my eyes I could still see them!  Lots of Nerodia and Water Moccasins.  Got some pictures.

See the last set of pictures on the second page.

The The National Wildlife Refuge on the Cache River is due east of Bald Knob.  It is so slow that you can put in just about anywhere and paddle up stream then drift back to your take out.  If you plan a through trip, I highly recommend a GPS.  The river gets very twisted and confusing and you may have to make your way out through a swamp.

We are planning more trips this summer after we get back from a trip out west in early June.  I want to check more of the Cache, the White River, the Black River and Bayou Deview.  These are all flat water.  I will start posting when we are going.  Anyone who wants to join in is welcome.

I enjoyed your photo's too, debo.  I saw you guys last saturday on frog bayou in mountainburg...I live in that thriving metropolis. funny too...I saw you guys down there after that rain we had the night before and thought "man, them guys are crazy!" -probably the same thing people say when they see me in waist-deep grass with my snake tongs!   Small world indeed.

Nerodia is the genus name for watersnakes.

I guess I'm crazy on both sides.  lol  I love white water and I love snakes.   One of those nuts that you saw was my husband.  Yes! Very small world!

Dang, you beat me to it, DeBo.  I was going to say that "Nerdia" is the  same thing for what used to be called "Natrix".  HAHAHAHA!  (Ah well, it would have been a nice joke for the herpers...)
